Love Fest!!

Hello Friends

Splitcoaststampers held a new series of challenges for 11 days this month, called "Love Fest".  I did all of the challenges over the weekend...but have yet to blog any...so here goes!!  (I am just making BRIEF descriptions... too much to type otherwise!)

The first challenge called for items spelling LOVE.  I used Lilac card stock, Oval die cut, Vintage style, and Embossing (dry and heat).  The main image is from Elements of Style.

The second challenge:  A sketch challenge here...but I flipped it.  More retired dsp here.  In fact, all of the dsp I used in Love Fest was retired...as were many of the accessories.

The third challenge:  Add some Bling!  Rhinestones and my fave stamp "You're a Gem" went perfectly with this theme.  I love the Mixed Bunch stamps too! The colors also met a past color challenge.

The fourth challenge:  Make a card with a non-traditional fold.  I made an easel card, featuring this flower garden embossing folder and a new sale-bration button.

And the fifth challenge:  Use any dies...I used my sizzix stars, so I could have different sizes.  LOTS of retired products too...woohoo!

I used several punches and ribbons throughout.  I will post the other challenges later on.

Thanks for dropping by!

Friday Mashup! Vintage Flowers

Hello and Happy Friday! It's time for another Friday Mashup challenge (LOTS of participants last week...let's keep it up!) This week we have a challenge from Kathy that many of you will LOVE: Vintage Flowers!!

  • Create a card/project using flowers

  • Create a card/project with a vintage feel

  • Or Mash it Up and create a card/project with flowers and a vintage feel!!

This was a challenge for me only because I just got back from a wonderful vacation Monday night and work has been uber busy already! I am hiring a new staff member, and have been doing interviews...I have a tough decision to make! So, my stampin' mojo was slow in coming!! I started with some fabulous DSP from the Paisley Petals pack that features baja breeze, not quite navy and river rock...so that is where the color palette originated. BUT as I went along, I didn't like the pattern with the rest of my design! LOL! All of you stampers know how a card design evolves over time, right? So here is what I actually did use: River rock for my card base, then some whisper white which I ran through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper impressions folder. I then sponged it with river rock, baja breeze and not quite navy classic ink. My image (on whisper white oval with the Ovals die) is from the NEW Simply Soft 2-step stamp set. (LOTS of great new stamps in the brand-spankin' new Stampin' Up Idea Book and Catalog!) I stamped first in stazon black, then used baja breeze for the petals. I added some detail with my river rock and NQN markers, then crumbled it up. After I "unwrappd it" I sponged with the new pool party ink and river rock. It was "too neat" so I tore the edges, (Aha! That's why it's not an oval any more!) but layered it on a NQN oval. I added baja breeze seam binding and antique brads. If I did it again, I'd only use one brad, I think! My sentiment is from Three Little Words, paired up with my dynamic duo: modern label and word window punches. This is a FAT card...lots of dimensionals. I love fat cards! LOL!!

My fingers are now sufficiently inky...first time in 2 weeks. Ahhhhhhhhhhh...good to be home!!

I hope you play along! Just use keyword FM14 in your online gallery!

Dare to Put a Twist on some Classics!

Hello and Happy Wednesday! It's time for another Color Dare! This week, Riley has us using a twist on the classic pink, green, brown scheme for CD#101: Regal Rose, Old Olive, and Early Espresso.

Now, truthfully, I rarely use regal rose. In fact, I probably use it less than any other pink. But oh my, with this early espresso, I love it! I will be using it more now, for sure! All of my products here are from Stampin' Up! I used an early espresso card base, and added a large layer of regal rose, embossed with the vintage wallpaper folder in my Big Shot. I rounded 2 opposite corners just for a simple detail. The layer is embellished with striped grosgrain ribbon and a large antique brad. The whole layer is popped up on dimensionals. The main image is from Style Beautiful...a new set for me. I stamped with my early espresso craft ink spot on very vanilla, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I used my blender pen to color in the image with the old olive and regal rose ink pads, then added a layer of old olive card stock. The sentiment is from You're a Gem, and it fit perfectly in my 1" circle punch! I sponged it lightly and popped it up with a dimensional. I still needed just a little something, so I added 3 basic jewel pearls. Love the contrast on the dark card base!

For the inside, I used my markers to color a sentiment from On Your Birthday and the corner image is from Style Beautiful. I meant to use my regal rose marker on the verse. Oops. Not re-doing it!

Hope you enjoy this color scheme...Join us and upload your beautiful creations! Be sure to use keyword CD#101.
