Colours for a Hero

Happy Monday!

Sort of...I overslept!  I must have been exhausted, because i also went to bed earlier than usual.  Could make for an interesting day!  And this means that I completely RUSHED to make this card.   I uploaded my card here, posted to the Colour Me...! challenge blog, and now I am filling in the details.  I nearly decided to just skip this, but I haven't finished a CMCC card for a while, plus I combined it with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  I just wanted to start my Monday off right!  *wink*

This card is nearly flat, because I am going to put it in a box of Hero mail for Operation Write Home.  They are wrapping up their organization, and will only be receiving cards until August 1, 2015.  I have a lot of space in my box, so I need to hurry up and get cards made!  This is very self-explanatory.  Night of Navy card base, real red patterned paper, Sizzix oval die, and SU's "Words of Courage" stamp set, using real red and navy ink.  The star buttons were in a drawer...I have had them for years.  I bought them at a big box store, but I don't have the original packaging.  I wish I had put twine in them but I had to RUSH!  LOL  I even tried to cut the horizontal strip like a banner at fist; it was messy.  I think I *need* the new punch from SU!

I really need to tweak this card before I duplicate it and mail to our military heroes.  But at least I had my adrenaline rush to kick off my day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Colours for a Hero

Good morning, and Happy Monday!

I made this card last night for the Colour Me...! challenge.  Instead of uploading it then, I sat and watched 2 of our favorite shows on the Food Network.  Alton Brown is hysterical!  Then I went to bed early, because we had a lot to do early this morning before my husband went into work this morning.  Funny thing is, I told him "Okay, as long as we're home in time for me to upload my card."  I have my priorities in order, you know.  *wink*

Any way, this is a Clean & Simple design.  I wanted to try this "Irresistibly Yours" paper from Sale-a-Bration.  Several years ago, SU had some similar embossed paper, which I really enjoyed (Presto something). I like the patterns in the new pack even better.  I thought the colors would coordinate well with the stars, and I am working on a box to send to Operation Write Home.

The colors are more similar than you might expect in this palette...that is the reds compared to each other, as well as the aquas.  My card base is bermuda bay, and I added a layer of real red.  I sponged bermuda bay in the lower corner, cherry cobbler in the center, and coastal cabana on top.  After sponging, I took a tissue to wipe excess ink off the stars.  I added a strip of black satin ribbon for contrast.  My Sizzix star die came in handy, and they go well with the stamped sentiment from SU's "Words of Courage."

I hope to make more of these, with different shades of blue and red, and some different greetings...all for our heroes serving overseas!

Thanks for stopping by!

Operation Write Home

Here is a quick Christmas card I made over the weekend. I came across a blogg post from va.sunshine...an amazing stamper! She came up with this sketch for Operation Write Home. We were to create a holiday card for one of the troops to use. I decided to open my new Jolly Holiday dsp. The large scallop circle and middle strip, with scallop border, are very vanilla. The image is from Fun and Fast Notes, colored with markers in crumb cake, early espresso, marina mist, cherry cobbler, daffodil delight, and old olive. More yummy cherry cobbler seam binding! LOVE this stuff!!

I hope to make 6 of these, then send them on to OWH. Here is their website...maybe you can send holiday cards too!!
