World Card Making Day!!

The first Saturday in October is World Card Making Day, and the folks at splitcoaststampers celebrate by kicking off a month of special challenges. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, something many of us can relate to. I have family and friends struggling with this ugly disease...but the strength they show in their fight to survive is amazing!

So, today kicked off the "Hope You Can Cling To" challenges. There were 3 today, and there will be one more each day this month. I hope to do them all!!!

The first challenge asked us to use Pink Critters. I started with an early espresso card base, and added a strip of lucky limeade, which I ran through my big shot with the elegant bouquet impressions folder, then sponged with espresso ink. I ran some very vanilla through with the top note die. Using the retired Stampin' Up set "Bliss" I stamped the flourish in crumb cake and lucky limeade, and the butterflies in pretty in pink. I popped one butterfly up with dimensionals. The sentiment is also retired, colored with markers, and cut out with the decorative label punch in vanilla and pink. The final detail is some pretty in pink satin ribbon.

The second challenge lets us use Pink Bling. The card base is concord crush, with strips of wisteria wonder, pink pirouette, and pretty in pink, all embossed with the perfect polka dots embossing folder. I made a square of my own designer pattern with a flower from Friends Never Fade, and mounted it on lucky limeade for contrast. I used my bird punch, using different colors, and a tiny dot with my basic black marker for the eye. I pulled out You're a Gem and my circle punch, plus some silver elastic cord. White organza ribbon and fire square brads finish it off.

The third card is quite different. We needed to make a circle card. I also wanted to make a card for this week's SCS color challenge: cherry cobbler, early espresso, and pool party. Hmmmm... So I pulled out my large scallop circle die. I cut out 2 circles of pool party card stock, and attached with cherry cobbler seam binding. I stamped my new Hostess set Precious Butterflies in cherry cobbler and early espresso directly on the circles. I added a large scallop circle in early espresso, detailed with basic pearls. The regular scallop circle is stamped with one of the butterflies and a sentiment from Perfect Words, another Stampin' Up Hostess set. Finally the largest and smallest circles were sponged...had to add something!

I can hardly wait to play along with more challenges this month!!

Challenge Catch-Up!

I have not posted for a week, but I have stamped! So I am doing a long post...hang in there!

I did 4 challenges from SCS this week...Featured Stamper, Clean and Simple, Color, and Sketch. I also spent a bunch of time prepping card kits for my friends. I hosted a World Card Making Day event all day yesterday. Lots of fun...big mess! heehee! I even had a woman come and stamp for the very first time! I think she's hooked already!!

This is my Featured Stamper challenge card. "Hobbydujour" was the star of the day...very nice gallery! Here is the card I CASE'd. I loved the simplicity of one bright color and a neutral. I used Eastern Blooms for my flowers, Elements of Style for the flourishes at the bottom, and Teeny Tiny Wishes, all stamped in Melon Mambo. I used my ornament punch to make the vase. Just cut of the tip! The paper is from the neutrals paper pattern stack to go with the basic gray card base. Rhinestones and ribbon finish it off.

Monday's Clean and Simple challenge was a sketch, and it was perfect for me to make some more thank you cards. I have a couple of male board members who did a lot of work the day of the Walk for Life. I needed cards that were not too frilly! The card base is river rock (I'm trying to like it!), an I added cherry cobbler and very vanilla. The cherry cobbler was run through the Big Shot with a Texturz Plate from Backgrounds 1. I used Thank You Kindly and Pocket Silhouettes, stamped in Cherry Cobber and Soft Suede, respectively. I added some hemp twine and a button from the regals collection. I really love my buttons this year!

Next came Tuesday's Color Challenge...basic gray, daffodil delight, and regal rose, with the option of another color, since gray is a neutral. I added wild wasabi. I immediately thought of my numerous floral sets, but wanted to try something different. This is Love You Much, and I had rarely used it, but this was fun to make! I colored the image with my markers. I also had fun with my scallop trim punch and heart to heart punch (which makes 3 different heart sizes). I used more of my pattern paper stack, since I had some out from the featured stamper challenge! I added some 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon and one tiny rhinestone on the flower.

Finally, I made this thank you card for Sketch Challenge 300. Because of this milestone, lots of prizes are being offered by random drawing. I'll let you know if I win anything! The card base is cherry cobbler, and I added basic black, embossed with perfect polka dots in my big shot. Since I am making thank you's for each of my staff, I used the cute little bird in Fun and Fast Notes again, colored with markers and my blender pen. The DSP is from Love Letter. Fun patterns! The markers are blushing bride, daffodil delight, wild wasabi, cherry cobbler, and riding hood red. I also added some self adhesive pearls, and used my corner rounder a lot!

Hope you made through this mini-gallery! Time for me to stamp again!!

More WCMD cards

I really need to be stamping tonight. My 16th anniversary starts in 3 hours! LOL!! Bruce is in bed already since he has to be at work at 3 a.m. for another 12 hour day. It kinda stinks...but it is a good job, so we are grateful. He will likely be too tired to do anything tomorrow, so we are celebrating on Saturday.

But before I can create a card for him, I need to clean up my WCMD mess. I will post a picture later (I really did take one!) First, I want to post a few other projects from last weekend.

This little card was made for a volunteer at the pregnancy ministry where I work. We recently had a fund raiser, and I had LOTS of help! The stamps are retired (Baby's Firsts & Many Thoughts)...except I did stamp "thank you's" in yo-yo yellow on the baby panel...just can't see it. That thank you stamp is from All Holidays. The colors are inspired by the Brazilian flag, which was one of the challenges. I used yo-yo yellow, green galore, and pacific point. The yellow panel is embossed w/ a texturz plate, and I used a corner punch and FABULOUS ribbon!

Here is a simple Christmas card, also for a challenge. I needed to incorporate ornaments. I don't have the new Stampin' Up punch or ornament stamps yet (Gasp!) but I had these die cuts from the Christmas Jingle Simply Scrappin' Kit. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, and the branches are from the retired Peaceful Wishes. Chocolate Chip, old olive and ruby red ink...modern label and ticket corner punch, riding hood red taffeta ribbon.

Here is another thank you card...the large round "fire" brad and the layers with lots of dimensonals make this one better for hand delivery. A simple color scheme of mellow moss and rich razzleberry combined with the True Friend stamp set. The challenge involved off-set panels for it's "sketch" or layout.

Finally, this card was made for a color challenge...pumpkin pie, very vanilla, and chocolate chip! Doesn't that sound like a yummy fall dessert?? I used some DSP, grosgrain ribbon, and brads...texturized and sponged my main panel..stamped the flower from Wings of Friendship (hostess set) and the retired (BooHoo!) Very Versatile. I bought that set just for this thank you verse!!! Perfect for volunteers and donors!! I think this is my favorite for the weekend...maybe 'cuz it makes me feel cozy!!

Ok...time to go make that anniversary card!!!

WCMD projects

So, I had hoped to upload this stuff on Sunday...didn't happen! Then the last 2 days have been crazy busy at work...plus we are having a spiritual retreat of sorts at church for 4 nights this week. Wow! So, I will just post a couple of things tonight...this could take a while! LOL

This is a "One Sheet Wonder" gift set. I LOVE making these! I did a workshop with a few friends on Saturday. Planned it way back in February, before I knew it was World Card Making Day...kinda cool how that worked out! This set features the stamp set called "Serene Snowflakes" found in the Mini Holiday Catalog from Stampin' Up. I usually use 4 colors, and one neutral, then I make 5 or 10 cards. You can use Designer Series Paper (DSP), but I like to make my own! I am a STAMPER! LOL!! The colors are rich razzleberry, bermuda bay, melon mambo & taken with teal.

Now, here is a card I made with one of my favorite stamp sets...Thoughts and Prayers. I used chocolate chip, always artichoke and very vanilla card stock; brocade blue ribbon ( I LOVE ribbon) brads, scallop and ticket corner punches...oh I almost forgot. Chocolate chip, brocade blue and always artichoke ink. I made this for a woman at church whose husband died lastweek. So sad..hope this will give her some comfort.

Ok, one more for tonight. I needed a lot of thank you cards for volunteers at the ministry where I work. WCMD was the perfect time to get some done, plus use some of my HUGE stash of last years In-color goodies. The first challenge on splitcoatstampers for Saturday was to incorporate a quote. This one from Mother Teresa is perfect...I have had this stamp for eons! The card stock is baja breeze (retired) basic black, and whisper white. I used baja breeze ink to stamp the flourish from the Wings of Friendship hostess level 2 set. The plush ribbon is retired...but black grosgrain would work too. The buttons, in kiwi kiss and baja breeze have the new silver elastic cord from the Holiday Mini...plus I added a dab of Crystal Effects to keep the knots in place. That stuff is so versatile! Of course I used a corner punch (rounder) and dimensionals...
because I *have* too! I can't wait to make more of these in various colors...I always need thank you cards!!

Whew! Now I think I will go to bed! Hope to stamp and post more tomorrow!!

World Card Making Day!!

Today is World Card Making Day...and I have been busy, busy, busy! I began my day prepping for a One Sheet Wonder workshop with a few ladies, spent a few hours with them, then jumped into the challenges posted on Splitcoaststampers. I thought I would upload here...but I have not finished yet! LOL!! It is about 11:30 at night, and I am completed with challenges A-H. Just 4 more to go...I'm gonna skip "I" for now, and jump to "J" since it is a yummy color combo. Then I should go to bed...gotta sing at church in the morning! I will upload some cards tomorrow...stay tuned!!
